You’ve probably come across it: working with the Morphogenetic field or in short: the field. But what exactly is this field, and how do you work with it?
The Knowing Field: an Invisible Grid of Information
Anyone who has attended a family constellation will recognize the field. Around us exists an invisible grid of energy through which we exchange all sorts of things with each other. You could call it the ether, the quantum field, the morphic field, the magnetic field, or the knowing field. This field is both a physically and energetically defined space in which, for example, a family constellation is set up. You can stand in this space, alone or with others, and make contact with this field. The energy of the knowing field provides information about the family system. By positioning representatives and asking them what they feel and perceive, insights emerge regarding the relationships between family members. It makes the unconscious relationships and dynamics visible. Representatives sense which direction they need to move in to restore harmony within the system. The knowing field transcends space, time, and generations.
Morphogenetic Fields
More visible forms of a field include, for example, schools of fish that suddenly change direction or flocks of birds dancing rhythmically in the sky. A network of fungi that forms a grid underground or a dog barking long before its owner comes home. Biologist and author Rupert Sheldrake describes these collective patterns and movements as morphic fields. According to Sheldrake, morphic fields extend beyond biological systems and can also influence human behavior, cultural patterns, and even the structure of the universe. A family system is also a morphic field. He views this as a collective memory on which future generations build.
Felt Sense
According to Sheldrake, memory is not stored in the brain but in the body, which responds to the field around us. In constellations, this physical reaction is observed because it has something to communicate. You may suddenly feel cold or warm, sad, or get goosebumps. Your body perceives the field, and we, in turn, perceive those signals from the body. We use the Felt Sense method for this. You can also invite the field to reveal what is left unsaid. Between the words, you can feel where a blockage lies or what is being hidden. In this way, everything that is in the shadows comes to light.
Trusting the Field
On an energetic level, everything and everyone is connected. You can see it as a movie in which we play roles on different levels—both material and energetic. We are influenced by the field, and in turn, we influence the field. The more you develop trust in the field, the more you start to recognize “inexplicable” signs. Think of “coincidences” like synchronicity, telepathy, dreams, and predictions. You can practice perceiving the field by participating as a representative in constellations.
